A technology based solution to combat micro-plastic pollution
Harnessing Microbes...
BioYarn technology enables microbes to break down synthetic fibres in a similar way to natural fibres. When BioYarn treated textiles shed microfibres during washing and wearing and eventually end up in landfill, soil, seawater, or in wastewater treatment plants, bacteria in these environments are attracted to the garment textile material and form functional colonies that digest the textile molecules, much like they do with naturally biodegradable materials.
Although the biodegradation rate of any biodegradable material depends on specific environmental conditions, long-term studies have shown that BioYarn fibres decompose at rates comparable to wool.

An eco-essential mission
Synthetic microfibres are a significant contributor to microplastic pollution in our environment.
People may ingest tens of thousands to millions of microplastics over their lifetime. Each wash cycle can release up to 700,000 microfibers.
Synthetic microfibres account for 35% of ocean microplastic pollution, equivalent to 50 billion plastic bottles each year. These synthetic fabrics make up 60% of the global textile market.

A technology-driven solution
Textiles that incorporate BioYarn technology break down in the same way as natural fibres when they end up as pollutants in the environment.
This is achieved by our unique patented additive acting as a nutrient source for microbes that are naturally found in landfill and other environments. These microbes are specifically attracted to the BioYarn fibres and ingest them and they produce enzymes that break down the plastic polymers completely, digesting them and produce waste that is nutrient-rich compost.
Unlike traditional synthetics, BioYarn leaves no microplastic residue ......only natural microbial byproducts that support a healthier planet.

Thoroughly tested and proven
Independant third-party testing has confirmed the safety and effectiveness of BioYarn technology.
BioYarn has been Independently Tested and Certified by Intertek who have issued BioYarn with an internationally recognised Green Leaf Certificate, verifying its biodegradability through rigorous testing, and confirms compliance with ASTM D5511-18 and ISO 15985-14.
This certification provides independent assurance that Bio-Yarn breaks down effectively in landfill environments, leaving no harmful microplastic residue
